From big events to small ones, your support is important.

Like many cancer survivors or family members, you may be looking for a way to help others who share your experience. A great way to get involved is through fundraising. While getting started may seem like a daunting task, with time and dedication anyone can do it.

If you are trying to decide what organization to support and want to make sure that the money you raise stays in your community, and supports individuals and families by providing direct services, please consider Stillwaters Cancer Support Services.

Raising money in support of Stillwaters does not have to be difficult, and no amount is too big or too small. It can be as simple as writing a letter to your friends and family asking them to honor you through a contribution to Stillwaters.  Our website handles donations on-line and individuals can specify if the donation is being made in honor or in memory of someone.  Some individuals chose to use hostess parties (i.e.: Silpada, Pampered Chef, etc.) and donate a percentage of the proceeds to Stillwaters.  We have also had individuals hold rummage sales, bake sales at work, sell their used books, all sorts of creative endeavors that have raised money to benefit Stillwaters programs and services.

While picking up the phone is one way to jump-start your efforts to raise money, hosting a fundraising event is a way to reach many people at once. There are countless types of fundraisers, from small community events to large galas. For example, you may want to raise money through a golf outing—but if the people you are trying to attract aren’t interested in golf, your event won’t be successful.  However, bowling fundraisers and walks tend to be successful because they are events the whole family can enjoy.

In fact, walks have become a very popular way to raise money for cancer research and support programs. But if you’re new to fundraising, organizing one of these walks can seem overwhelming. Keep in mind that planning such an event will probably get easier each year.  And for larger events, Stillwaters staff would be happy to assist in anyway.

When you’re organizing a fundraising event, create a committee of people who will each take the lead on different aspects of your event. You’ll need people to be responsible for duties such as obtaining sponsorships, organizing publicity, directing volunteer recruitment, or coordinating activities on the day of the event.  And no matter what type of fundraising event you decide on, it’s important to keep good records for your taxes. Also, don’t forget that contributors will need proper receipts for the items or money they’ve donated. You can learn more about the relevant tax laws by checking the website of the Internal Revenue Service or consulting an accountant.

How can you help support Stillwaters?

Stillwaters relies on donations and grants from the United Way in Waukesha County, individuals, corporations and foundations to provide our programs and services at no-cost to participants.  Your gift of any amount is appreciated. Monetary donations are accepted in the form of cash, check, MasterCard and VISA and ONLINE via PayPal. Stillwaters is a 503(c) non-profit organization and all donations are deductible as allowed by law.

Individual Contributions

There are many ways to support Stillwaters Cancer Support Services.  Whether you make a cash contribution, attend or sponsor one of our special events, volunteer or donate a product or service you ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!  Please remember to give is to receive, and through your gift you will receive the fulfillment of knowing you have made a difference in the life of someone with cancer.

Tribute Gift

Any gift can be made in honor or memory of a family member or friend, to acknowledge a special doctor, nurse, care center, or to commemorate a special occasion such as an anniversary or holiday. We will let them know about your thoughtfulness.

Matching Gifts                                                                                                                             

Many employers match the charitable contributions of their employees. To take advantage of this program, ask your human resources department for a matching gift form. Fill out your portion of the form and enclose it with your donation.

SPECIAL EVENTS                                                                                                                 

We invite you to attend or sponsor our annual Harvest Ball or Golf event.   Stillwaters Cancer Support Services hosts two major fundraising events each year: our annual Golf outing in the summer and our Harvest Ball in November.  These events raise approximately  55% of our annual operating budget.

Corporate and Foundation Giving

Corporate Friends
Corporations can join Stillwaters Cancer Support Services Corporate Friends program to provide vital support to individuals with cancer and their loved ones.  As a member of the Corporate Friends program, companies will receive quarterly program information and updates, invitations to special events and be eligible for on-site support and educational services for employees coping with a cancer diagnosis in their family or in the workplace.  In addition, Stillwaters can provide training to management and staff on how to deal with a cancer diagnosis in the workplace.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Stillwaters Cancer Support Services works with area businesses and foundations to create customized sponsorship opportunities through program support and/or special events.  Companies can choose to support specific programs including youth programs, retreats for cancer patients, grief workshops, etc. A variety of sponsorship opportunities are also available for our annual golf outing and Harvest Ball gala.

Planned Giving                                                                                                                   

Stillwaters Cancer Support Services receives financial support from individuals in many ways.  If you would like to make a planned or deferred gift to the organization, please let us acknowledge your generosity.  Planned giving offers you many ways to benefit personally while ensuring that Stillwaters Cancer Support Services will have the resources to carry out its mission in the years to come.  Donors can make contributions of cash, stocks, appreciated marketable securities, or through trust funds and insurance policies.  Please let us know if you have included Stillwaters in your will or estate plan and haven’t informed us yet.  We want to thank you and celebrate your gift.

Third Party Events                                                                                                                   

Helping people with cancer can start in your own backyard.  You can help raise awareness for Stillwaters Cancer Support Services and raise funds to support our programs at the same time.  Many individuals choose to host their own fundraising event to benefit Stillwaters programs and services.  Some unique events have included:
  • Letter writing campaigns during the holiday season requesting donations in honor of a loved one/survivor
  • Company bake sales, jeans day, etc.
  • Proceeds of sales from a home shopping party
  • Neighborhood picnics
  • Company raffles
